Building a Successful Career: Four Pillars

 


To be successful in the professional world, your career is built on four pillars: product/service, technology, domain, and behavioral. Let's delve into each in detail below.

  1. Product/Service - This forms the foundation of your career in the industry or company. List all elements related to the product or service, such as architecture, flows, features, modules, etc. Categorize your knowledge level as No Knowledge/Beginner/Intermediate/(SME)Subject Matter Expert. Set goals and timelines for each level of expertise and progress gradually.

  2. Technology - Familiarize yourself with the technology relevant to your job. Create a comprehensive list of technology aspects, such as Basic Java, data structures, networking, design patterns, etc. Mark your proficiency level and work towards improvement.

  3. Domain - Understanding your domain is crucial for career advancement. Stay updated on industry developments, protocols, network operations, etc. List down domain-specific knowledge areas and strive for proficiency, just like with product/service and technology.

  4. Behavioral - Behavioral skills are essential for career growth, especially as you advance to managerial or leadership roles. Allocate at least 10 minutes daily to develop behavioral skills like communication, conflict resolution, time management, etc. Read books like "Atomic Habit" and the Dale Carnegie series. Subscribe to relevant resources like newsletters, Instagram/Facebook pages, or online courses to enhance your leadership abilities.

By focusing on these four pillars and consistently working on improving your knowledge and skills in each area, you'll pave the way for a successful and fulfilling career journey.
